Festivus, the fictional holiday widely popularized after its appearance in the show “Seinfeld,” is almost upon us. The holiday provides an alternative to the consumer culture of traditional winter holidays like Christmas, but even with its anti-establishment bent, Festivus manages to be a lot of fun.

Some people take Festivus seriously, putting up an aluminum pole instead of a Christmas tree and sharing grievances with friends and family members. But others use Festivus as merely another way to welcome the holiday season and to reminisce about the time when “Seinfeld” was still on TV.

For both kinds of people, Festivus events are taking place around the United States during the month of December, leading up to the annual celebration Dec. 23. Here are some of the best “Festivus for the rest of us!” events you can attend this month.

Dec. 17: Seinfeld Trivia Extravaganza & Airing of Grievances -- Some people like to celebrate a little before the official Festivus holiday. With this trivia event at Gotham Bistro & Bar in New York City, you’ll get to show off your “Seinfeld” expertise and tell your friends why they annoyed you this year. Tickets can be purchased here.

Dec. 19: Tom Stahl and the Dangerfields Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Festivus Extravaganza -- This event is not only for Festivus lovers, but rest assured you’ll meet plenty of fellow Festivus aficionados at this concert. The event, which will be held at 189 Public House in East Aurora, New York, bills itself as “Folk Rock Served With A Side of Sarcasm.” More information can be found here.

Dec. 19: All Things Go Presents: Rad Santa -- Featuring Ra Ra Riot, Great Good Fine Ok and the DJ Lightwaves, this holiday party at Union Market in Washington, D.C. offers a Festivus theme to complement the music. There will be a premium open bar, a Festivus pole and more. Get your tickets here.

Dec. 19: V-Spot’s Holiday Market -- V-Spot, the Latin vegan restaurant that started in Brooklyn and now has a location on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, is hosting a pop-up market this weekend. There, you can find gifts to suit all the winter holidays, even Festivus, the event says. Entry is free, and you can find out more about the vendors and festive event on Eventbrite.

Dec. 23: Seinfeld Trivia Extravaganza & Airing of Grievances! -- There will be another Festivus trivia night on the actual evening of the holiday. This time, the event will be held at Slattery’s Midtown Pub in New York City. Make sure to reserve your tickets in advance to get your whole team a seat!

Dec. 23: Seinfeld Trivia Extravaganza & Airing of Grievances! -- There is also a version of this event taking place at Black Bear Bar & Grill in Hoboken, New Jersey. You can reserve tickets for that event here.

Dec. 23: Second Annual Festivus At Hydraulic Hearth -- In Buffalo, New York, Hydraulic Hearth is hosting a Festivus celebration with “Seinfeld” trivia for the second year in a row. Teams can sign up in groups of six to eight people, and the party will include Festivus miracles, a Elaine-style dance-off and a brand new feat of strength. Get more information and register here.

Dec. 23: Festivus 2015 -- Triple Rock Brewery in Berkeley, California will be hosting its annual Festivus celebration. The night will include an Airing of Grievances, Feats of Strength (physical activities with beer) and a “Reindeer.” Find more information here.

All month long: Festivus! At Renaissance Dupont Circle -- The Renaissance Dupont Circle Hotel in Washington, D.C. has been celebrating Festivus since the beginning of December, and guests are invited to join in, aluminum pole and all.
