KEY POINTS

  • Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker are returning for “The Flash” Season 8
  • Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes have decided to leave the show after Season 7
  • Lead star Grant Gustin’s contract is reportedly good for two more seasons

Fans will see very familiar faces when “The Flash” returns for Season 8 later this year.

Deadline exclusively revealed Wednesday that original cast members Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker have inked new deals to be part of the next installment in the series.

Martin plays detective Joe West while Patton gives life to the former’s on-screen daughter Iris West. On the other hand, Panabaker is portraying Dr. Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost on the show.

The renewal of the trio’s contracts signifies their reunion with lead star Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash or Barry Allen, Iris’ husband. Gustin did not have to go through contract discussions since the one he has right now is expected to last until the next possible season.

It’s worth noting that the CW has not indicated whether Season 8 will be the last installment in the series. But considering Gustin’s contract, it’s very likely for the show to still run for another season after this year’s installment.

Martin’s, Patton’s and Panabaker’s previous contracts were supposed to end with Season 7, which is airing its finale on July 20. Meanwhile, the other two original cast members, Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes, are leaving after the ongoing season.

The show’s renewal for Season 8 was announced in February, along with the CW’s verdict on its other series, as per IGN.

In May, the CW CEO Mark Pedowitz announced that Season 8 will open with five special event episodes featuring characters and heroes from across the Arrowverse.

“The idea for The Flash is [showrunner] Eric Wallace and [executive producer Greg Berlanti] have come together, and we're talking about other superheroes from the CW-verse that will come together in each individual episodes,” Pedowitz was quoted as saying by Entertainment Weekly at the time.

“It will not quite be a crossover, but it will have a crossover-type feel with the introduction of all these characters,” he added.

“The Flash” Season 8 is set to premiere its first episode on Nov. 16.
