  • Samsung is anticipated to launch the Galaxy Nore 20 series this 2020
  • The upcoming smartphone might house a new and more powerful SoC, according to a new report
  • The Samsung Galaxy Nore 20 series might run on the new generation Exynos 992 SoC

In Oct. 2019, the South Korean tech and electronics giant launched at Samsung Tech Day its new generation flagship chipset, the Exynos 990 SoC. The model is currently found on some international variants of the Galaxy S20 series. Interestingly, a new report reveals that the Seoul-based tech giant is allegedly working on a more powerful chipset that might be in its upcoming Galaxy Note 20 series.

The latest news about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series comes from ZDNet Korea, which was picked up by Sam Mobile. According to the report, the South Korean tech titan is developing a new and improved chipset, allegedly called the Exynos 992. The said SoC would be reportedly unveiled in the summer of 2020 or in the early part of August 2020.

The report disclosed that the upcoming and soon to be launched Samsung Exynos 992 would be founded on the latest 6-nanometer manufacturing process. While this is not as advanced as that found in the new generation SoCs from Huawei and Apple, the new SoC from Samsung is a welcome improvement. According to the report, the Samsung Exynos 992 would feature between 1 and 3 percent superior speed compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.

In other words, the upcoming SoC would feature better performance compared to that offered by Exynos 990, which some Galaxy S20 models are using. Both the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and Exynos 990 working under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series are based on the 7-nm manufacturing process. Given the details of the Exynos 992, it is safe to assume that it could offer better power efficiency than what the Galaxy S20 processor could provide.

Additionally, the report claims that the upcoming Samsung Exynos 992 might be used in the Korean released Samsung Galaxy Note series. This could mean that the Seoul-based tech giant would return to flagship Exynos SoCs following the release of the Galaxy S20 series with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 in Korea. While this information is not yet officially confirmed by the company, it is most likely happening.

Samsung might have decided to use the Exynos 992 on its soon to be released Galaxy Note 20 series because the release of Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 met some delays. It was initially scheduled to roll out in the third quarter of this year but was recently pushed back because of the current global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
