The Garfield Heights Police Chief confirmed the death of one child in the shooting that took place at a Garfield home, Ohio, Wednesday night. Another child suffered injuries and is undergoing surgery at a nearby hospital. The shooter surrendered himself post the standoff and was taken into custody.

A SWAT team surrounded the 4800 block of East 86th Street after neighbors reported shots fired in the area.

Neighbor Connie Allshouse said a woman ran to her house and said her boyfriend shot her children following a fight.

"Call 911, Connie. He shot my babies, he shot my babies," Connie quoted the woman saying, Cleveland.com reported.

Allshouse added she heard four to five gunshots before the woman knocked on her door screaming for help. Her husband ran outside and found the woman's son and daughter lying on the ground.

“The son didn't look too good," she said.

The woman was always scared of her boyfriend, Allshouse said, adding, "He always threatened her and said he would kill them and set the house on fire.”

"I always knew this would happen and it finally really happened,” she said, explaining she was scared the fights over the last four or five years would escalate.

SWAT members asked the neighbors to evacuate the houses. Witnesses said the suspect was inside the house and threatened any police who entered the building.
