A picture of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell lounging at the Queen's Balmoral residence was presented as evidence Wednesday in Maxwell's sex trafficking trial in New York.

Maxwell, 59, is on trial for recruiting, grooming and helping Epstein sexually abuse underage girls from 1994 and 2004.

Prosecutors submitted the photo as evidence of the tight relationship between Epstein and Maxwell and their close ties to rich and powerful people. The photo appears to have been taken in 1999, when Epstein and his inner circle were invited to the royal estate in Scotland by Prince Andrew.

Queen Elizabeth II and a friend were seen sitting in the same log cabin in another photo.

Prince Andrew has not been charged with a crime.

To strengthen their argument that Maxwell and Epstein were "partners in crime," federal prosecutors have presented many pictures in court as evidence, with some showing the couple kissing and hugging. Epstein and Maxwell were a couple in the 1990s and remained close after their relationship ended.

"Ghislaine Maxwell is not Jeffrey Epstein," said Maxwell's legal team. "Ms. Maxwell vigorously denies the charges, intends to fight them, and is entitled to the presumption of innocence."

In August 2019, Epstein killed himself in a New York prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
