Canada-based Goldcorp Inc. said its third-quarter soared 88 percent over the year-earlier period on sharply higher prices and increased production.

Net earnings, adjusted for one-time items, rose to $336 million, or 41 cents per share, from $305 million, or 32 cents per share, in the year-earlier quarter.

Revenue jumped 48 percent to $1.3 billion from $885 million.

The average realized gold price increased 39 percent to $1,719 per share. Gold production rose to 592,100 ounces from 588,600 ounces.

Gold and silver production at Goldcorp's Peñasquito project in Mexico was 55,800 and 4,203,200 ounces, respectively, for the third quarter. In September, Peñasquito achieved record average throughput of 102,000 metric tons per day.

Shares rose 71 cents to $48.20 in midday trading.
