Google on Monday announced its second big move to New York in 2018. After the tech giant in March bought the Manhattan Chelsea Market building for $2.4 billion at 111 Eighth Ave., a $1 billion property in the city is on the way at nearby 315 and 345 Hudson St., and 550 Washington St.

"Google Hudson Square," which will be roughly 1.7 million square feet, will open in two years, while the Washington Street building is slated open in 2022.

Google Hudson Square will serve as the main location for the company's advertising sales division.

"New York City continues to be a great source of diverse, world-class talent—that’s what brought Google to the city in 2000 and that’s what keeps us here," Ruth Porat, the company's chief financial officer, said in a blog post.

Google in 2000 opened its first New York office and then moved to 111 Eighth Ave. in 2006. The California-based company employs 7,000 people in the city and will double to 14,000.

New York is quickly becoming Silicon Valley East, as Amazon, Facebook and Spotify, are also growing in the city. Amazon’s HQ2 will open just outside Manhattan in Long Island City.
