  • The racing video game is expected to release sometime in 2022
  • PlayStation recently revealed the launch platforms of "Gran Turismo 7"

"Gran Turismo 7," the upcoming racing video game developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, is not a PS5-exclusive title, according to PlayStation.

The recent Q&A session with PlayStation Head of Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst, published on Playstation Blog, revealed interesting details about "Gran Turismo 7." Although the racing game's release date hasn't been announced yet, Hulst confirmed that when the game finally launches sometime in 2022, it will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PS5.

"Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we'll continue looking at that," Hulst noted. "And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them."

The executive shared the news while discussing the importance of providing the PlayStation 4 with continued support. "You can't build a community of over 110 million PS4 owners and then just walk away from it," he said.

The executive also revealed that several Playstation exclusive titles would also be available in Sony's previous-generation gaming console. These games would include "Gran Turismo 7," "Horizon Forbidden West" and the next "God of War" game.

It appears like Sony will keep supporting the PS4 while making sure that gamers can still get an incentive when they pick up a PS5. Sony still offers exclusive gaming experiences to PS5 users by offering them games like "Demon's Souls," "Returnal" and the much-awaited title "Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart."

Last year, Polyphony Digital released an impressive announcement trailer for "Gran Turismo 7." The trailer, which provided a cinematic look at the much-awaited racing video title, was unveiled during the PS5 reveal. Since then, the gaming studio has shared plenty of gameplay details, including increased loading times, 4K visuals and 60 FPS gameplay.
