"Grey's Anatomy" Season 19 will see five new first-year surgical residents who are training at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

In the Season 19 premiere, which was aired Thursday, Interim Surgery Chief Meredith Grey welcomed the new interns of the hospital's teaching program.

"The big swing here is that it's the first time since (Season 1) we have a class of five series-regular interns," executive producer Krista Vernoff said. The new cast was hired to "truly refocus the show on the plight of becoming a surgeon when you have basically no idea what you're doing," Vernoff added.

Here are the new medical interns in ABC's "Grey's Anatomy":

Niko Terho as Lucas Adams

Newcomer Terho previously starred in Freeform's gay rom-com "The Thing About Harry." The 26-year-old describes his character, Lucas Adams, as "super-ambitious and passionate about what he does, but he gets frustrated with himself very often."

"He comes from a family of surgeons and they're all pretty successful, so he has a lot to live up to," the actor told USA Today.

Terho said he attended a huge boot camp and learned how to stitch, do chest compressions and use a scalpel.

Midori Francis as Mika Yasuda

Born in Lakewood, New Jersey, 28-year-old Francis previously starred in "Good Boys" and HBO Max's "The Sex Lives of College Girls." She also appeared in Netflix's "Dash & Lily" and was nominated for an Emmy.

Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin

Australian-born Kane previously appeared on CW's "Reign" and MTV's "Teen Wolf."

The trailer of the medical drama hint that Kane's character, Jules, might be intimately involved with Dr. Atticus Lincoln (played by Chris Carmack). The latter admitted to Grey that he slept with one of the interns, reported Collider.

Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffith

The 28-year-old actress is best known for her role as one of the best friends of the titular character in Netflix's "Inventing Anna." Floyd also appears in the new season of "The Good Fight" on Paramount+, which was premiered in September.

Harry Shum Jr. as Benson "Blue" Kwan

Shum, 40, portrayed Mike Chang in "Glee." He also appeared in "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Everything Everywhere All at Once."

Shum says his "Grey's Anatomy" character comes from a background "where he's used to being No. 1. He's a pretty impatient guy and doesn't get along with too many people."
