New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement from the NFL on Sunday after nine seasons with the franchise. He won three Super Bowls during his time with the team and was also named in the All-Pro team on four occasions.

The 29-year-old, who was a second round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, is considered among the greatest tight end’s in the history of the NFL. Patriots owner Robert Kraft praised Gronkowski and admitted he was looking forward to induct him into the New England franchise’s and NFL Hall of Fame in the future.

Gronkowski’s 79 receiving touchdowns are the third-most in NFL history for a player under the age of 30, while the 80 touchdowns he scored is the most in Patriots history. He is also third all-time in receiving touchdowns for a tight end.

The question everybody is asking after Gronkowski announced his retirement is: What next? Where will we next see the ‘the Gronk’ as he is popularly known? The tight end has not hidden his admiration for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and many are predicting he would be seen in the pro-wrestling promotion now that his NFL career is over.

Gronkowski made his pro-wrestling debut at WrestleMania 33 when he entered the ring during the Andre The Giant Battle Royal. He clashed with Jindar Mahal during the match and helped his close friend Mojo Rawley win the match.

Rawley, who is part of the Raw roster in WWE, tweeted his best wishes to the tight end after his retirement and revealed that “things are going to get wild now” with the best yet to come. Was the WWE star hinting at a potential return to the ring for the Gronk, especially, with WrestleMania 35 just around the corner?

Many NFL fans were also wondering the same and many have called for Gronkowski to make the switch to WWE. Raw tag team champions the Revival also added to the speculation surrounding the now former Patriots tight end's potential entry into pro-wrestling.

Dash Wilder hinted the tag team champions could likely face Rawley and Gronkowski in a title match at WrestleMania 35, which takes place April 7 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The WWE has always left its doors open for celebrities and athletes from other platforms, with many stars making appearances at the flagship pay-per-view event. But Gronkowski’s appearance, if it happens, could be more permanent rather than just a one-off.
