It’s a big week for “Harry Potter” fans, and it’s not just because “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” hits theaters Friday. Potterheads are also excited about a new sci-fi series called “Origin,” premiering on YouTube Premium Wednesday, which features a couple fan favorites from the Wizarding World franchise.

Tom Felton is best known as Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter’s school adversary. Felton played the Slytherin in all eight films, but in “Origin” he plays an even more complicated man. Felton’s Logan, a petty criminal, is one of many characters who gets on a spaceship to head to a different planet. Everyone has their reasons, which often involve guilt or tragedy, for wanting to leave Earth and colonize a new world.

Felton hasn’t stayed away from sci-fi/fantasty projects since wrapping up the “Harry Potter” franchise in 2011. He has been in “Rise of Planet of the Apes” and “The Apparition” since then. He also had a significant role in “The Flash” Season 3, but his TV stints are typically on the short side. He hopes the YouTube series breaks that pattern.

“Mika [Watkins, showrunner] has an endless pool of talent,” he told Digital Spy. “She’s got so many exciting stories in her head.”

Though they never shared a scene in “Harry Potter,” Felton’s co-star is Natalia Tena. The actress played Nymphadora Tonks, the pink-haired auror, in the latter half of the franchise. She has also had significant roles on “Game of Thrones” as Osha and “Wisdom of the Crowd” as Sara. It sounds like she is still kicking butt in “Origin” as Lana.

Tena plays a military vet suffering from PTSD who has become a bodyguard. Expect her to show off her fighting skills on “Origin” as well. She learned Krav Maga specifically for this role.

She’ll be putting those skills to use since the ship taking the humans to a new planet might not make it to its final destination. The “Origin” trailer (seen at the top of this page) makes it clear that the ship becomes compromised, and the passengers will have to fight to survive. But with everyone being strangers, they’ll have to figure out who they can trust.

“Origin” premieres Wednesday on YouTube Premium.
