Harry Styles fans, fear not! Despite his failed attempt to play the role of The King of Rock N’ Roll, Elvis Presley, the former One Direction lead man is reportedly in negotiations to be casted in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” as Prince Eric.

A few days prior to news about the casting of Prince Eric’s character, the studio had already chosen someone who will play the lead role female counterpart, Ariel, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The casting of Styles and Halle Bailey, who is a part of the musical duo Chloe X Halle, reportedly showed that the studio was determined to make the music the central component of the live-action adaptation.

“The Little Mermaid” production is also eyeing the “Spy” actress Melissa McCarthy, “Wonder” child actor Jacob Tremblay, and “Crazy Rich Asians” cast Awkwafina to star in the live-action film, aside from the 20-year-old American R&B singer and the 25-year-old English song writer.

The One Direction former member made his acting career debut in 2017 when he was included as one of the casts in Christopher Nolan’s film “Dunkirk.”

Prior to the news about “The Little Mermaid’s” casting, Styles made an attempt to audition for the lead role in Baz Lurhmann’s upcoming biopic, which will depict the life of Elvis Presley —The King’s march toward fame and fortune. Unfortunately, the role was given to “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” actor Austin Butler.

The selection process was not easy because Styles had to compete not just with Butler but also with “Divergent” actors Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller. It’s true though that when one door closes, another door will open.

Eric, the role which reportedly Styles will be playing, is the human love interest of Ariel, the rebellious daughter of King Triton. She saved him from drowning, and thereafter, made a deal with Ursula —the princess’ voice in exchange for feet.

All because of love. Ariel, who was fascinated with the life on land, wanted to be given the opportunity to become human, so she can be with the prince.

“The Little Mermaid” movie, which was written by David Magee, will be directed by Rob Marshall, Variety reported. Currently, there is speculation that the team is already planning an early 2020 production.

Casting is reportedly ongoing so fans will just have to wait to know who will take on the roles of Sebastian and the famous sea witch, Ursula.
