The new “Lizzie McGuire” series has officially wrapped shooting its first episode. Hilary Duff spoke with E! News and discussed what we can expect from her new reprisal of the famous Disney Channel original TV show character.

"It's been great, and kind of every day I'm driving to work and I'm like, I'm driving to 'Lizzie McGuire.' This is so weird. I never thought this would happen again," she said.

As far as the story goes, we find Lizzie living in New York City working for an interior designer with a great life, but a new set of adult-oriented challenges. When talking about returning to the role, Duff described it as “muscle memory,” and that this role is really an “extension” of her.

There’s one extension of her that will be making a comeback. Lizzie’s cartoon character alter ego will also be returning to provide the internal monologue throughout each episode. The animated Lizzie is still the same 13-year-old we saw in the original series, having not aged a bit.

"There's a confidence that I'm definitely trying to give her, just 'cause she's older and gone through more life than when she was a teenager," Duff said about the changes she’s made since being a teenager.

Aside from Lizzie, we’ll also see the return of some other characters, including her family. No word yet on whether her vest friends Miranda and Gordy will be returning. We are, however, getting the return of one potential love interest, Ethan Craft, played by Clayton Snyder.

Duff hinted at a possible plot point there: "He's hot. He's very hot," she said. "I'm pretty sure there's going to be, there's going to be a thing."

With only one episode shot so far, there’s still a long way to go, and Duff has yet to work with the cast who played her family in the original series.

The series is set to debut on Disney Plus next year.
