“Homeland” is back on U.S. soil. After months of waiting for new episodes, Showtime viewers will get to watch the premiere of Season 6, episode 1 on Sunday. Before tuning into the 2017 installment, here’s a refresher on what happened in the Season 5 finale.

In Season 5, episode 12, “A False Glimmer,” a tense battle between Carrie (Claire Danes) and hesitant terrorist Qasim (Alireza Bayram) played out. Carrie, realizing Qasim was having second thoughts about going through with the poisonous gas attack in the Berlin train station, gives him her gun and tells him to shoot his cousin Bibi (René Ifrah), the brains behind the operation.

The fight ends with Carrie killing Bibi and Qasim dying in the process.

Outside the station, Saul (Mandy Patinkin) tells Carrie they have yet to find (Miranda Otto). Carrie doesn’t help with the hunt, opting instead to go to her boyfriend Jonas’ (Alexander Fehling) apartment. Carrie and Jonas make up after she tells him tells the dangers in her life are behind her. They split the following morning when Carrie tells him she was involved in thwarting the terror attack, Jonas saying he doesn’t want to life his life in danger, much to Carrie’s upset.

Carrie doesn’t waste anytime going to see Quinn (Rupert Sanders), who last viewers saw was being rescued after the terrorists tested out the poisonous gas on him. The doctors tells Carrie that Quinn had a brain hemorrhage, needs surgery and he will likely have brain damage if he survives.

Meanwhile, Saul continues to hunt down Allison, whom he learns is being snuck out of Germany by the Russians. The finale then jumps four days into the future.

Carrie visits Quinn in the hospital and finds Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) already there. He gives her an envelope and tells her she’s Quinn’s beneficiary. Saul interrupts Carrie while is reading the letter asks her to rejoin the CIA. She refuses.

When Carrie tells her boss Otto (Sebastian Koch) about Saul’s proposal, he makes his own offer. He asks her become his life partner. Carrie is stunned and doesn’t reply.

After being treated for her self-inflicted gunshot wound, Allison is told by the Russians she will have to travel out of Germany in the trunk of a car. En route, the car is forced to take a detour onto a desolate road. What awaits Allison is Saul and a team of snipers who kill everyone onboard.

Carrie is then shown returning to the hospital and reading Quinn’s letter. In the note, Quinn, who is still alive, says he’s not surprised he died because he doesn’t deserve real love. Quinn asks Carrie not to make a fuss of his death.

Carrie is then shown transferring Quinn’s heart monitor onto her town finger. She does not kill him. The season ends with Carrie starring down at Quinn as a beam of light comes into the hospital room.
