Angelina Jolie has spoken up about the impact of her divorce from ex-husband Brad Pitt on her career.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly published Tuesday, the Hollywood actress got candid about her messy situation with Pitt following their split and how it affected her work as a director.

“I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that's not made it possible for me to direct for a few years,” Jolie said, before revealing that this led to her turning to acting more amid her divorce and custody battle that started in 2016.

“I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs. That's really the truth of it,” she explained.

Jolie and Pitt first met on the set of their movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in 2003. At the time, the actor was still married to Jennifer Aniston, while the actress had just divorced Billy Bob Thornton.

In March 2005, Aniston filed for divorce from Pitt, and the actor was spotted vacationing in Kenya with Jolie a month later. They eventually got together but only tied the knot on Aug. 23, 2014, as per Insider.

The A-list couple shocked the world when they announced their split two years later as they had already built a family with their six children: Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 12.

Since breaking up, the exes have been embroiled in a messy battle over the custody of their kids. The latest development in the situation was reported by Vanity Fair last month when Jolie offered to testify against her ex-husband in court to provide “proof and authority in support” of the domestic violence that Pitt allegedly committed.

The move left Pitt “heartbroken” and “devastated” because he has owned up to his “past issues” and has since stopped drinking, Page Six reported, citing unnamed sources close to the actor. His camp also alleged that this could be Jolie’s way of swaying the opinion of people ahead of the trial’s conclusion, the report said.

As of late, the exes are prioritizing their children’s health and happiness amid the custody battle. Although their kids are staying with Jolie during the pandemic, they get to have regular visits from their father, according to E! News.
