Blonde Brownies with Brown Sugar Frosting (Compliments of Betty Crocker)

What You Need:

Brownies:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups Gold Medal all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Frosting:

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

To make, start by heating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, beat granulated sugar, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla and the eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with a spoon, until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Spread the batter evenly in a greased 13x9-inch pan.

Bake 20-23 minutes or until golden brown and an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely for 45 minutes.

In a 2-quart saucepan, melt 1/3 cup butter over low heat. Stir in 2/3 cup brown sugar and cook over low heat for two minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in milk, and cook until the mixture comes to a rolling boil. Remove from heat.

Gradually stir in powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing well with spoon after each addition, until smooth and spreadable. Add more milk if necessary, a few drops at a time. Spread frosting over the brownies and immediately sprinkle with pecans. Cut the brownies into 6 rows by 6 rows to serve.

Caramel Blonde Brownies (Compliments of Midwest Living)

What You Need:

  • 1 14 oz. package vanilla caramels, unwrapped

  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, melted
