Director James Gunn took to Instagram Monday to share the logo of his highly anticipated superhero movie "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and promised fans to release it on May 5, 2023.

"See you all in theaters two years from Wednesday. 5.5.23 #gotg #guardiansofthegalaxy #guardiansofthegalaxyvol3.," he wrote in the caption.

Sylvester Stallone, who also stars in the movie, reacted to the post by writing, "You go for a genius!"

The 74-year-old "Rocky" star made another comment and wrote, "I meant 'go for it', someday I'll learn how to spell. That's great news for everyone who wants real escapism and gifted story telling."

Actor Michael Rosenbaum, who worked in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," also left a comment, which read, "can I audition?"

The 50-year-old director also shared the exciting update on Twitter. Comments and questions from fans poured in immediately.

"How do you guys feel knowing this movie was supposed to come out last year?" one of them read.

In response, Gunn said, "Lucky. We didn't have to have our date pushed a number of times like everyone else."

Meanwhile, another fan complained about the announcement by saying, "Oh come on really. Why even announce it when it's that far the f--k away," to which the director replied, "Two years is not far away in filmmaking time, and my last three films have announced their release dates at about this same time."

Another fan was curious if there will be a fourth installment of the series. "Will this be your last GofG movie or will there be a 4th one?" the said fan asked.

Gunn replied, "I'm planning on it being my last."

The movie was originally slated for release in 2020 but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it was pushed back.

Gunn was fired by then-Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn in 2018. However, in March 2019, he was chosen again for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."

He is currently busy with his upcoming action-adventure movie "The Suicide Squad," which is slated for release on Aug. 6.

In a recent tweet, Gunn revealed that he had taken the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
