Jamie Lynn Spears has opened up about how heartbroken Britney Spears was after her split with Justin Timberlake.

According to People, the 30-year-old actress guested on the "Call Her Daddy Podcast" for a two-part episode, in which she talked about her sister's heartbreak.

Pertaining to the pop star's relationship with the former NSYNC singer, Jamie Lynn said, "I think everyone thought it was forever."

"I was so sad, first off because my sister was so sad, but that, too, was the first time I saw [that] maybe I didn't know everything about the relationship," she added. "Perhaps they were protecting me and obviously why would they talk to me about anything."

Britney and Timberlake dated from 1998 to 2002. Following their breakup, Timberlake dropped "Cry Me a River." The song's music video showed a blonde woman cheating on the star, as if implying that Britney had cheated on him.

"I thought how heartbreaking it must have been for my sister when 'Cry Me a River' came out," Jamie Lynn shared. "Don't get me wrong, like, that's a way to launch your solo career, right? That's a way to do it, but I felt really sad."

The "Zoey 101" star further recalled how her sister wrote the song "Everytime," which came out in 2003, and praised the singer for her creativity. According to her, Britney "picked that song out on the piano" and penned it.

Jamie Lynn also admitted that though it's been almost two decades since the song was released, she still feels emotional every time she hears it. "Because I think about how heartbroken she was, because that was her song and that was his song," she said.

It can be recalled that Timberlake apologized to Britney publicly via Instagram last year after their relationship was highlighted in a documentary, "Framing Britney Spears," which premiered on Feb. 5, 2021.

The official Instagram page of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast teased the second part of its episode featuring Jamie Lynn on Monday. In it, host Alex Cooper can be heard asking the actress, "You have a text message that clears your name from your sister. Can you pull out your phone and read that recent text from Britney?"

The first part of the episode came out Monday evening. Its second installment, on the other hand, will drop on Spotify at midnight Tuesday.

On the work front, Jamie Lynn has been a regular on the TV series "Sweet Magnolias" since 2020.
