Comedian Jay Leno was hospitalized after suffering burns to the left side of his face after one of his cars at his Los Angeles garage burst into flames.

Leno, 72, was taken to Grossman Burn Center in the Los Angeles suburb of West Hills, where he is recovering.

"I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet," Leno said in a statement to Variety.

Leno's eye and ear were not severely damaged, according to reports.

"It was a steam car. This steam was made by gas. It got sprayed, as a gas," George Swift, who works at Leno's garage, told Entertainment Tonight. "... [Leno] called me and he told me there was a fire and the fire department is coming."

The former "Tonight Show" host was scheduled to attend the Financial Brand Forum on Sunday in Las Vegas. An email from the convention said Leno had suffered "a very serious medical emergency" but there were no specifics about his condition.

Leno has long been a car aficionado and an avid collector. He reportedly has a collection of over 180 exotic cars, hypercars and museum-grade artifacts.

After leaving "The Tonight Show," Leno began a series on CNBC called "Jay Leno's Garage."

The veteran entertainer has canceled all of his engagements for the week, according to his representatives.
