Kao USA has recalled select bottles of Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer because it could contain a bacterium that may pose a health risk to some people.

The recalled lotion affects certain 3-ounce and 10-ounce bottles that could have a bacterium known as Pluralibacter gergoviae, which typically has little medical risk to healthy people. But those with weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to infections from the bacterium.

The affected Jergens lotion was manufactured from Oct. 1, 2021 through Oct. 18, 2021.

The 3-ounce single bottles have a UPC code of 019100109971 and 019100267114 for a pack of three. Lot codes are ZU712851, ZU722851, ZU712911, ZU712861, ZU712871, ZU722881, and ZU712881, which is located on the back of the bottle printed in black ink with a beginning prefix of “ZU.”

The 10-ounce bottles have a UPC code of 019100109988 and lot codes of ZU722741, ZU732791, ZU722771, ZU732801, ZU722781, ZU732811, ZU732781, and ZU732821, which is located on the back of the bottle printed in black ink with a beginning prefix of “ZU.”

The company is urging consumers who have the recalled lotion in their possession to discontinue using it as a “precautionary measure.”

They should contact Kao USA’s Customer Care Center for a free replacement product coupon at 1-800-742-8798, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, or via email at consumer@kao.com. Here, they will receive a paid label and plastic bag to return the product.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine the scope of the issue, despite the voluntary recall, the company said.
