While fans have been going wild following the announcement of another “Jersey Shore” reunion show, “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” their excitement was briefly paused after realizing original cast member Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola would not be a part of the new series.

Sources close to the reality star told Us Weekly that Sammi isn’t interested in spending time with her MTV castmate and ex-boyfriend Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. “Everyone was invited to come on the show but Sammi was the only one who didn’t want to. A big reason for that was because she didn’t want to be around Ronnie,” an insider revealed.

“She has been enjoying her life off of TV and didn’t want to change that,” the source added.

Sammi and Ronnie dated from 2009 to 2012 and eventually moved on to new relationships. Ronnie briefly dated Malika Haqq in early 2017. Meanwhile, Sammi has not been shy about sharing her relationship with boyfriend Christian Biscardi all over Instagram.

Ronnie and Sammi had a rocky relationship throughout their time together both onscreen and off screen. Lately, it seems like the exes have been doing their best to avoid one another in both professional and social situations.

In July, Ronnie failed to make an appearance in the Burger King commercial that the cast appeared in. During that time, it was revealed that he had been distant from the group and failed to be a part of their attempts to have a reunion. “I honestly don’t know if anyone has spoken to him about it,” cast member Deena Nicole Cortese said at the time.

“Right now we’re in a group chat with me, Pauly, Vinny Mike, Nicole, Jenni and Sam. Ronnie’s actually not in it right now, in the group chat, but we’re all talking about it and we’re all trying to figure out ways to make it happen.”

Ronnie also skipped Deena’s wedding, which Sammi attended and was accompanied by her boyfriend.

Although Sammi has made the decision to pass on the “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” show, fans can expect to see Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Paul “Pauly D” Delvecchio, Jenni “JWOWW” Farley, Vinny Guadagnino, Cortese, Ortiz-Magro and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino when the series premieres in 2018.
