Christmas appears to be a very traditional event with some unique twists in the Biden household.

President-Elect Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to discuss his election win and criticism that his wife has recently endured, but also discussed the holiday season with the late-night host, revealing some of the traditions that have been in their household each year in the process.

The incoming First Lady broke out in laughter when Colbert asked them about traditions for the holiday season, revealing his family always engaged in an argument about how to string lights on their Christmas Tree, revealing that her husband had some very specific family traditions when it came to their own tree.

“Oh, he’s crazy about his Christmas tree!” she said. “Because, you know, the Bidens have a tradition where they mix Ivory Snow with water.”

After clarifying that what they did was mix Ivory soap powder detergent and water, the President-Elect went on to reveal the purpose.

“My dad used to do it, the Biden tradition...and I swear to God, it looks like snow is falling on the tree,” he said.

He also went on to reveal that tinsel also had to be strung up on the tree one strand at a time, and the family also had a tradition where Santa was the one who put the snow on the tree, and there was a particular order that everyone came downstairs to see.

“What happens is, the tradition in our family is based on youngest to oldest, including our grown children, you come down the stairs,” he revealed.

Though his wife seemed chagrined that she has had to put the fake snow on the tree each year, Colbert reminded her that as the First Lady, she will be in charge of Christmas decorations at the White House—something Melania Trump famously was not happy about—and reminded her she could ban the Ivory Snow, which led her husband to declare that she could do what she wanted with those.

“I’m not doing all those trees, just Santa’s tree,” Biden said.

The couple’s comments come after his predecessor, current President Donald Trump, signed an executive order giving federal employees off on Christmas Eve this year, which he did after indicating that Biden would wage a war on Christmas and take the word out of the vocabulary of Americans.
