KEY POINTS

  • Jon Jones is the 7th highest earning UFC fighter of all time
  • He owns the longest winning streak in the UFC
  • Jones vacated the light heavyweight title recently

Jon Jones is arguably the best ever to fight in the UFC. However, is he the biggest earner ever? The answer is no, because the throne belongs to Conor McGregor. So where is Jones placed in the biggest earners among MMA fighters?

Jones earned around a total of $7 million from fight earnings, which is good for only the 7th spot. His net worth is around $3 million. On the other hand, the cash king remains to be McGregor with $15 million. The Irish fighter is also considered one of the highest earners in combat sports because of his crossover fight with boxer Floyd Mayweather in 2017, which earned him at least $75 million, per Statista. Other fighters comprising the top six are Alistair Overeem, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Anderson Silva, Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre.

Jones owns the longest winning streak in the UFC and that tells a lot considering the quality of the foes he faced and conquered in the octagon. He recorded sensational victories against Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson, Rashad Evans and Mauricio Rua, all of whom can be considered future Hall of Famers of the sport.

Born Jonathan Dwight Jones, the American MMA fighter, who also goes by the moniker “Bones,” is a 2-time former light heavyweight champion of the UFC. He is self-taught and only got interested in mixed martial arts when he learned his girlfriend was pregnant.

The Rochester, New York native could have actually accumulated bigger career earnings had his personal issues and medical suspensions not gotten in the way. He was charged in a DUI incident in 2012 and was charged with battery in 2019, according to Celebrity Net Worth. He had been found positive for the use of anabolic steroids multiple times, resulting in suspensions and doubts from his wins. Jones was able to rise from the problems and now claims he is a changed man.

Aside from prize winnings, the unorthodox fighter makes money off endorsement deals. He collaborated with Nike, Reebok, MuscleTech and Gatorade in the past.

His future remains uncertain as he recently vacated the light heavyweight title after talks with UFC President Dana White, but experts see him moving up to heavyweight where he can set up a lucrative fight against current champion Stipe Miocic. Jones can also ask for a fight with former foe and archrival Cormier in a heavyweight bout. Although Cormier has retired from the sport, a big paycheck and a chance to settle the score with Jones could prove to be too much to pass up on.
