KEY POINTS

  • Kate Middleton shared a close relationship with Prince Harry for a long time and wanted him to reconcile with Prince William
  • Queen Consort Camilla also encouraged her husband, King Charles, to smooth things over with his son, Prince Harry
  • Katie Nicholl claimed that King Charles was devastated by how his relationship with Prince Harry turned out to be

Kate Middleton and Queen Consort Camilla have been doing their part to help Prince Harry reconcile with their husbands, Prince William and King Charles, respectively, according to a royal expert.

Vanity Fair royal editor Katie Nicholl, the author of the new book "The New Royals," spoke about Prince Harry's relationship with his family. He has been estranged from the members of the firm since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to step back from their royal duties in 2020.

According to Nicholl, King Charles' and Prince William's wives are helping Prince Harry end his rift with his father and brother by convincing their husbands to reconcile with him.

"Behind the scenes, I think Kate has very much played the role of a peacemaker," Nicholl said when Us Weekly's "Royally Us" podcast host Christina Gribaldi asked if the new Princess of Wales could be the bridge to bring the two siblings back together. "Don't forget, and I explore this in the book as well, she had a really close relationship with Harry for a long time. And he used to think of her as the sister that he never had."

Nicholl was convinced that Middleton played a role in trying to get the brothers back on track. She added that the new queen consort did the same to help bridge Prince Harry with his dad, King Charles.

"As has Camilla," she continued. "And I reveal that in my book that she's played a role, sort of very quietly behind the scenes and certainly in terms of really encouraging Charles to do everything he can to help try and smooth things over."

Nicholl acknowledged that the job is not easy, but they are a family, and it's common for families to experience fallouts. It's just that their drama has been publicly aired and played out.

Nicholl previously spoke about King Charles and Prince Harry's relationship. According to her, His Majesty was "devastated" with how his relationship with his youngest son turned out. The new monarch is reportedly hopeful in reconciling with Prince Harry.

"I think Charles has been devastated by how things have spiraled," she told Fox News Digital. "And he is hopeful that there will be a reconciliation. I think we saw that in the very... public olive branches that were extended to Harry and Meghan. After the queen's death, particularly in that first speech that Charles gave to the nation, he spoke of his love for Harry and Meghan."
