  • Clarkson admitted the challenges of being a working parent

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock’s divorce surprised many, but there were already signs that they were about to split before their separation was made public.

Clarkson has filed for divorce from her husband on June 4. Their fans were shocked after learning that they were splitting. However, unknown to many, the “American Idol” winner had been dropping clues about the status of her marriage in the past months.

Here are five signs suggesting that Clarkson and Blackstock were heading for splitsville before it was announced, according to Us Weekly.

Houses on the market

Clarkson listed several of her properties on the market. In December 2019, the singer listed her Hendersonville, Tennessee estate for $7.5 million. Five months later, she decided to sell their L.A. mansion for $10 million.

Couldn’t agree on having more kids

Clarkson and Blackstock share two kids, River Rose, 5, and Remington, 4. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” host wanted to add more to her brood. However, her husband felt that he has enough already. Blackstock has two children from his first marriage with Melissa Ashworth, Savannah, 16, and Seth, 13.

“I so want another child, and my husband is like, ‘No! We have four!’” Clarkson told Gordon Ramsay during a Zoom interview after seeing the latter’s 14-month-old son, Oscar.

Clarkson wants to be alone on birthday

Clarkson was among those who celebrated her birthday during the lockdown. However, the celebrity didn’t feel isolated at all at home and wished to be alone on her special day.

“I literally looked at my husband, ‘cause it was a rough week of work and non-stop everything, and I said, ‘I don't want to cook one damn meal. I don't want to clean one article of clothing. I don't want to do anything.' … If my children were to come in and hug me, that's fine and then they leave,” she said on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” last month.

“So, on my birthday, I literally asked to be left alone, which is funny since we're all in isolation. But I am not in isolation. I'm constantly surrounded by people. So, I was alone and I enjoyed it and I did nothing but eat stuff that probably I gained 10 pounds and I watched, you know, whatever I was watching … I don't even remember.”

No new photos on social media

Clarkson has stopped sharing photos of her husband on social media. Her last post of Blackstock on Instagram was way back in March.

Clarkson struggles as a working parent

Clarkson said in a past interview that it was difficult to be a working parent in a very demanding industry. She has several commitments while maintaining her family.

“In any industry it’s hard to be a working parent. It’s hard to fit your kids in, your significant other in, your family,” Clarkson confessed. “It’s hard thing to do and also hold down a job that you really believe in and you’re into. And especially this industry is very demanding.”
