Speculation surrounding Kevin Durant's future at the Golden State Warriors continues to be a major topic.

Durant signed a one-plus-one deal earlier this summer which means he could become a free agent next year alongside a potentially loaded free agent class and start a new chapter outside of the Bay Area.

And according to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, the general feeling is that the 30-year-old will be leaving in 2019.

“Man, KD out,” Thompson said on KNBR's "Murph and Mac" on Tuesday, according to 247 Sports. “I feel like he is gone… It does have that vibe, like, ‘This is it. This could be it right here.' Here’s the hard part with KD: we don’t know what he wants. I don’t know that he knows what he wants. But I know the Warriors don’t know fully what he wants. Is it a championship, supremacy, is it to be the ace?”

“It feels like he has gotten everything he could possibly get from the Warriors, and it’s still not a hundred percent like he wants to be here. If it was like a relationship, like, ‘Look, man. I gave you all I got. You still looking — you might as well just go.’ That’s how it feels,” he said.

Thompson's comments came just days after it was revealed by Frank Isola, also of The Athletic, that the Warriors are confident about the two-time champion staying beyond 2019.

"The general feeling among Durant’s current teammates, coaches and front office staff is 'he’s as happy as I’ve ever seen him' and 'he’s in a great situation. He knows that,'" Isola wrote. "The Warriors organization, from top to bottom, is well aware that Durant may leave. But they’re also confident that he’ll stay."

Of course, if Durant is indeed leaving, the obvious favorites are either the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Knicks.

According to NBA insider Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, Durant will join the Lakers next summer and is already planning his move there much like how LeBron James did last season.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Chris B. Haynes revealed last week the Knicks have a good chance of luring him to New York where he could be the face of the franchise and look to bring championships back to Madison Square Garden.

"I will say this. New York Knicks have a very good shot at luring KD away from the Bay Area," Haynes said. "The reason I say that is his business partner Rich Kleiman is based in New York, huge Knicks fan. Their business is located and based in New York. KD's dad is a big Knicks fan."

"The same allure that LeBron had towards the Los Angeles Lakers, just the building, the culture, is the same thing, same way I know that KD feels about the Knicks," he added.

With the 2018/19 NBA season yet to commence, one can expect the rumors and speculation regarding Durant to only continue.
