  • Jurgen Klopp weighed in on the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga

  • The Liverpool boss insisted there's no need for his club to sign more talents

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp isn’t amused by the Cristiano Ronaldo frenzy.

After being heavily linked to a move to Manchester City, Ronaldo made a stunning U-turn and rejoined his former club Manchester United, the club confirmed Friday.

While some are thrilled about the Portuguese superstar’s transfer, Klopp said he thinks that clubs who want a player like Ronaldo are yearning for instant success rather than considering their long-term development.

"I watched it [Ronaldo story] like a football supporter, but I have no knowledge about it," Klopp told reporters, including ESPN, in a news conference Friday. "It's not about me to judge that, but if other clubs can do it, it's not a business for the future, [the next] three to four years, it's about now and immediately. That's how some clubs are working and that's fine, but there must be different ways, clubs who look two or three years later and have success.”

Klopp also confirmed that Liverpool will not try to sign big-name players just because the club has money to fund it.

"It's not always with the best squad in the world, it's about developing as a squad and a club and that's what we have done," the manager stressed. "We have resources and have been building for a while. I have no time to look at other clubs. I see the news, but I have no time to think about what they can do."

"We brought in [Ibrahima] Konate," he added. "He wasn't a bargain, he cost money too. But all the offensive, attacking players other clubs are signing -- obviously they thought they needed it and they have the resources to do it, but we won't use it as an excuse."

In line with Klopp’s mentality, the Reds have just completed the signing of Bobby Clark, a teenage sensation from Newcastle United tipped to become a star in the future.

As for Liverpool’s first team, the German coach said he is content with his current squad and insisted that he’s not bringing in more talent if it’s not necessary.

"We do not want more players," Klopp explained "Unless something happens it makes no sense to add more players. Everyone expects some player signings, (but) let's go through the squad. Do you want to buy a new fullback? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there."

"In midfield, we have players with a lot of experience, we have exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones," he added. "In attack, [Sadio] Mané, [Roberto] Firmino, [Mohamed] Salah, [Diogo] Jota, [Xherdan] Shaqiri, [Takumi] Minamino and [Divock] Origi. If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here."
