KEY POINTS

  • A new insider info reveals that the Jazz have held talks with the Knicks again
  • The subject of the discussion is Jazz superstar Donovan Mitchell
  • Mitchell has been mentioned in various trade murmurs this offseason

All has been quiet on alleged Donovan Mitchell at the moment, but it appears the Utah Jazz have re-engaged talks with the New York Knicks.

The past weeks have been largely centered on Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets.

It has overshadowed the status of the three-time All-Star until the recent update given by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

In his report, Charania alleged that the Knicks and the Jazz held fresh trade conversations within the past week, discussing a potential trade on the 25-year-old cager.

But despite these discussions, Charania explained that there was no traction in the held talks.

He added that for now, no Donovan Mitchell trade is imminent.

Aside from the Knicks, other teams in the race for the services of 6-foot-1 guard include the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and Miami Heat.

However, the Heat may not be at the top of the heap with the team since their focus appears to be on Durant.

New York is considered the frontrunner in the race for Mitchell because it has the first-round picks that the Jazz would be interested in.

The Jazz have up to eight first-rounders per NBC Sports.

Aside from future draft picks, New York also has its young players that could pique the interest of Danny Ainge.

Among those names are Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes and Immanuel Quickley.

But of those names, Grimes is someone that New York allegedly wants to keep.

In the initial round of talks, things bogged down after the Jazz asked too much in return for Mitchell.

Aware of the 13th overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft's potential, Utah believes they can command the price or return for the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Champion.

After trading Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves, it was initially believed that the Jazz would retain and build around Mitchell.

But they did not close doors on putting Mitchell on the trading block. Hence, it will be interesting what the latest round of discussions between the Knicks and the Jazz entails.
