New York City -- A crew member of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” was shot to death at the filming location of the hit NBC series in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning. The incident took place right before the cast and crew started filming for the day.

The victim, Johnny Pizarro, was found at 5:15 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn, police said.

Pizarro, a Queens resident, was reportedly sitting in his parked car when an unidentified man came up to him, opened the door of the vehicle, and shot him. Pizarro was immediately taken to Woodhull Hospital Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Photos from the crime scene show police tape barring off the street, causing heavy traffic. Police later found that Pizarro was working for “Law & Order: Organized Crime” and was tasked to enforce parking restrictions and look after the equipment trucks for the show.

In a statement after the incident, NBC and producer Universal Television revealed an investigation of the crime was underway.

“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result,” the network said. “We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

New York City mayor Eric Adams also issued a press statement through his press secretary to offer his condolences. “The safety of all New Yorkers is our top priority,” he said. “We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time, and will work diligently to bring the suspect to justice and stem the tide of gun violence we are seeing.”

While the lone gunman has yet to be determined, police said a short, slender man in a black hooded sweatshirt and pants was spotted rushing off from where the shooting incident had occurred around the time of Pizarro's shooting.
