“Legends of Tomorrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said that Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) appearance in tonight’s Season 2 finale of the CW series is not something that sneaks up on Sara (Caity Lotz).

“It certainly happens by the design of the writers,” Guggenheim told TVLine of the reunion between the Lance sisters. “It happens very organic to the story. It’s definitely a pivotal moment in the plot.”

While Guggenheim declined to reveal more details about the reunion, he did make it clear that Cassidy only appears as Laurel, and not as Black Siren or Black Canary.

Ever since Laurel died at the end of Season 4 finale of “Arrow,” Sara has spent a bulk of “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 with a vendetta against her sister’s murderer, Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). So being reunited with Laurel once again will give Sara a sense of closure.

“I don’t want to give anything away, but I don’t want to also toy with the fans’ emotions,” Lotz told said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s not like a full coming back, but it is a really lovely appearance, and I think people will like it a lot.”

Lotz also talked about Laurel and Sara’s reunion during an interview with TV Insider at PaleyFest last month. “Katie and I hadn’t been able to do a scene together in years,” Lotz said at the time. “She feels like my sister now, so [the reunion] was very emotional, nostalgic.”

During the same interview at PaleyFest, Guggenheim commended Cassidy’s performance in the finale. “I have to give a shout-out to Katie Cassidy,” he said. “It’s only one scene, but man, she’s spectacular in it. It’s a scene we’ve wanted to do since the beginning of the season. We really wanted to get Sara and Laurel back together.”

“Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 finale (episode 17), titled “Aruba,” airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
