“Legends of Tomorrow” executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed that there are plans to introduce a new love interest for Sara in Season 3 of the CW series. But because they want Sara’s next romance to be deeper and more serious than her previous flings, Klemmer implied that seeing her in a stable relationship might take some time.

“I think the challenge for us as writers is she’s such a powerful, formidable, self-possessed, kick-ass woman,” Klemmer told ComicBook.com of Sara (Caity Lotz). “Who is worthy of her? Because it’s a tall order to find a woman who is deserving of the great Sara Lance. That’s what we’re going to try to figure out, hopefully by the end of the season.”

While the introduction of a new love interest for Sara might not happen this season, Klemmer said that Season 3 remains to be a season of self-reflection for the Legends’ captain. “Sara has gotten to sleep with some incredibly attractive women throughout history. [But] this season is about her starting to wonder whether there’s a little something more, maybe, and also trying to figure out her own pathology,” the exec producer said. “Is there a reason why she’s so quick to love them and leave them? Why can’t she have a deeper relationship?”

During an interview with DC All Access at the CW Upfront earlier this year, Lotz revealed that she would like to see Sara find real love in Season 3. “I’d like to see her have a good relationship, not just a fling but like a real love relationship,” the actress said.

“There have been a lot of flings for Sara which has been fun,” Lotz told The Hollywood Reporter last April. “[But even though] it’s hard to have a relationship when you live on a time ship, I would love for her to be able to find another deeper relationship like her and Nyssa (Katrina Law) had [in ‘Arrow’], [or] maybe even explore the ‘Captain Canary’ thing.”

“Captain Canary” is the ship name created by fans for Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Sara, who is also known by the alias White Canary. The romance between the two started in Season 1 but abruptly ended when Captain Cold, aka Leonard Snart, sacrificed his life for the team towards the end of the show’s freshman run. Although Leonard returned in the latter part of Season 2, the kiss that happened between him and Sara in Season 1 was not addressed, much to Lotz’s disappointment.

“It’s a bummer,” Lotz told Entertainment Weekly in March after it was revealed that Leonard’s return to the series would not explore his past romance with Sara. “I really wanted to [play that with Wentworth], but hopefully they’re saving it for another time.”

Unfortunately for Lotz, it doesn’t seem that there will be another time to explore Captain Canary, as Miller revealed on Instagram over the weekend that he’s exiting the Arrowverse after this season.
