An Amber Alert has been issued in Rosenberg, Texas, for a 1-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted by her father.

Leylani Ordonez was last seen shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, a few hours before the alert went out.

Her father, Alexander Barrios Ordonez, 24, had allegedly fatally stabbed a man and stole his truck before proceeding to abduct Leylani. The child was taken from a home on Brooks Ave near 1st street where she was being watched by her babysitter, authorities said.

Alexander then drove off in an unknown direction. The police have asked the general public to look out for him, and the vehicle in which he drove off with Leylani, KHOU reported.

The alert says Alexander was driving a green 2004 Ford F450, bearing the licence plate T2160J. It also has a "Riverside Towing" logo, ABC13 reported.

Alexander is perceived as dangerous and the police believe Leylani is in the way of harm. The man is described as a 5 feet 7 inches tall Hispanic man, weighing 178 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark navy shirt, blue windbreaker and tan pants, the police said.

It wasn't clear where the child's mother was when the incident occurred. The motive behind the abduction was also not revealed.

Amber Alerts issued in Texas in October

A 2-week-old female child was reportedly abducted in Polk County. The police sent out the alert for Sonni Meilike after believing she was in "grave or immediate danger." Sylvia Norman, 31, was believed to be connected to the abduction. The child was located safely.

An alert was sent out for 13-year-old San Antonio girl Brisa Nicolas, who was believed to have been possibly abducted by a 27-year-old man. It was canceled after she was found safe.

What is an Amber Alert?

Amber Alerts are sent out for children that law enforcement authorities believe to have been abducted. These alerts are mainly used for the most serious child abduction cases, where they're believed to be in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.

These alerts are usually sent out with key information about the abducted and the suspected abductee. A tip line is also issued. The public is encouraged to call the number if they happen to spot individuals that match the description on these alerts.

The alert was named after Amber Hagerman, who was abducted while playing outside her home in 1996.
