How much will you be paying for the LG G4 smartphone when it ships in early June? LG Electronics hasn’t said officially, but some mobile carriers may have inadvertently divulged the price in their marketing literature.

T-Mobile and Sprint are now promoting the new flagship in giveaways. The contest rules put the HTC One (M9)’s approximate retail value at $600, for most carriers. Those interested need only sign up with their carrier of choice with their full name and email if they want a chance to win. Smartphones in the LG G line have typically been priced between $599 and $649 off contract and at $199.99 with a two-year contract in the U.S.

LG’s G series has in the past been priced at the lower end of the premium spectrum and it appears the company is sticking to that plan with the LG G4. By contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone starts at about $699 unlocked and the Galaxy S6 Edge $799. Similarly, Apple’s iPhone 6 starts at $649 and the iPhone 6 Plus starts at $749.

The LG G4 is expected to compete against the Galaxy S6 upon its release, largely because the G4 features a removable back, which allows users to remove and change the device’s battery and also allows them to install extra internal storage with a MicroSD card. This is a feature for which Samsung was once known, but the Korean manufacturer removed it with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, giving the devices a unibody design and no way to swap out batteries or expand internal storage.

The LG G4 will also likely compete with the Galaxy S6 in terms of camera specifications. The G4 features a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture lens, which takes in more light than a conventional f/2.2 aperture lens. This allows the camera to have a faster shutter speed and cuts down on blur in photos, especially in darker conditions. With these features, LG claims the camera on the G4 captures images at digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) quality. The Samsung Galaxy S6 also features a 16-megapixel rear camera, but its lens has an f/1.9 aperture.

Other hardware features on the LG G4 include a Quad HD (2560 x 1440 resolution) display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip, 3GB of RAM memory and 32GB of internal storage, as well as a 3,000mAh battery.

The LG G4 will come in several design options and users will have the option of choosing a leather back panel in tan, maroon, teal, taupe and yellow color options. Non-leather color options include metallic gray, ceramic white and shiny gold.
