  • LG Velvet to start new era for LG Electronics
  • LG Velvet ends G and V series
  • LG Velvet branded mass premium phone likely to aimed for mid-market

LG Electronics knows it has to do something to improve its place in the mobile phone market. Though they have offered impressive devices through the users at a reasonable cost, the demand for their phones has just struggled to keep abreast of other mobile phone brands. The LG Velvet hopes to change all that.

As the name connotes, the next LG flagship phone will offer something different. Set to launch next month, the LG Velvet will reportedly be a mass premium model which hints that it will be priced competitively against other flagship phones. It will come with a new design language, described as smooth, soft and luxurious to touch. The name also puts an end to LG's other brands (G and V) as the Korean company ventures into offering creative and unique brands, Slash Gear reported.

"Our new branding reflects current trends of addressing the unique personal tastes and emotions of the individual with a greater emphasis on design," said Chang Ma, senior vice president of product strategy of LG's mobile business said in a statement.

The name also hints at changes in terms of other specs of the LG Velvet. There is a possibility that the usual shiny and slippery glass of the current devices are in for some changes. Instead, the upcoming LG flagship could sport a textured or displays made of frosted glass materials. For those who want to get an idea of what the LG Velvet may look like, ZDNet reported some design renderings of the upcoming flagship which can be found here.

Also worth noting about the LG Velvet is that the company has not forgotten the importance of having a camera. Although some companies have been packing up the rear cameras of their flagships, the LG Velvet will have three rear cameras and LED flash aligned in what is called the "falling raindrop" design. To illustrate, the main camera will be located at the surface while the remaining two cameras will be under the cover glass to help avoid camera bumps.

Aside from these, the official specs of the LG Velvet have yet to be divulged. Being a mass premium device, it may not come packed with too many high-end features and priced fairly for folks looking at affordable phones they can use daily. But the coming weeks could reveal some of them before the LG Velvet's scheduled launch next month.
