Fans of the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” are a different type of fan base. That dedicated group can now rejoice because the musical is coming to the big screen.

The show’s creator, producer, composer and actor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, frequently tweets news and updates that surround the show to ensure “Hamilton” lovers remain in the know. His latest tweet on Monday has officially announced the release date for a “Hamilton” movie.

Writing in his usual poetic style, Miranda confirmed Oct. 15, 2021, will be the release date for Disney’s “Hamilton” in theaters across the U.S. and Canada.

The film is footage from the musical’s live show back in June 2016 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City, reports Broadway News. As confirmed by Miranda’s announcement, this means that the film will feature the original Broadway cast, including Miranda himself playing the titular role.

“All who saw it with the original cast will never forget that singular experience. And we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share this same Broadway experience with millions of people around the world,” said Disney CEO and Chairman Robert Iger in a statement, according to Variety.

Disney wasn’t the only studio vying for a chance at transforming “Hamilton” into a movie. Playbill reported that a bidding war broke out in 2018, where Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox were both contenders.

It seems Miranda is pleased with the outcome of Disney’s win. “I fell in love with musical storytelling growing up with the legendary Howard Ashman-Alan Menken Disney collaborations — ‘The Little Mermaid,’ ‘Beauty and The Beast,’ ‘Aladdin,’” he said in a statement Monday, adding that he’s “excited to partner with Disney to bring the original Broadway company of ‘Hamilton’ to the largest audience possible.”
