  • Luis Suarez was suspended for biting the ear of his opponent during FIFA World Cup 2014
  • He is linked to a possible team up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus
  • Suarez made an ad for Tourism Malaysia in 2017

Luis Suarez’s net worth is around $70 million. A big part of it comes from lucrative partnerships from brands.

In 2017 to 2018, Suarez earned an estimate of $7 million off sponsorships. At the time, he signed deals with Gatorade, Adidas and even managed to leverage his global appeal to become an ambassador of Tronsmart, Gome and Tourism Malaysia, per Forbes. His popularity skyrocketed during his second year at Barcelona, which made critics quickly forget his past antics involving alleged racist taunts and biting the opponent’s ear during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Uruguayan striker still has a year left off his contract with Barcelona but he might not get the chance to finish it off as he is involved in a move to Italian giants Juventus. Barcelona had a dismal performance in the Champions League and they were defeated by Real Madrid in La Liga. The team sacked Quique Setien immediately and brought in Ronald Koeman. Under the new manager, roster changes are expected to happen and Suarez looks like he will be among the first people to be let go.

If the Blaugrana could not get any decent offers for the former Liverpool forward, the team is willing to pay the remaining $17 million off Suarez’s contract and let him walk away on a free transfer, a report from Goal.com revealed.

Juventus is leading the race in getting him signed as the Serie A champions are desperate to look for strikers to partner with Cristiano Ronaldo. New Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo told forward Gonzalo Higuain that he can join other teams, which makes Suarez the perfect replacement for the Argentine talisman. On the other hand, he can make a return to Dutch professional football club Ajax where he spent one of the best years of his career.

His $23.6 million earnings in 2018 was good for the 60th spot on the Forbes list of World’s Highest Paid Athletes. At 33 years old, time is not on Suarez’s side anymore. If he can’t find a team in Europe, playing in Major League Soccer in the U.S. remains a possibility.

Meanwhile, wantaway star Leo Messi is linked to a move to the Premier League. A reunion with Pep Guardiola could happen in Manchester City but rivals Manchester United are also in the race to sign Messi. However, contract demands could cool off any advance talks as any team that wants to secure the Argentine’s signature must be prepared to open their war chests.
