A man in Ukraine “accidentally” killed his mother during an argument at home. He then dismembered the body and disposed of the corpse.

The unidentified man allegedly pushed his 56-year-old mother, who knocked her head against the door and died on the spot. He then purchased a knife to cut her up and a plastic barrel to hide the body. Accordingly, he dismembered the body and tried stuffing the corpse in the barrel. However, when the legs did not fit in, he covered them using a blanket and threw them into a bin near the house.

The 35-year-old man then rented a car and took the barrel outside the city of Mykolaiv. He put some soil into the barrel and drowned it in a river. The following day, he filed a missing report, Mirror reported.

Meanwhile, the legs were transported by a garbage truck to a landfill site outside the city. Workers at the landfill found it and reported it to the police.

"The workers were dealing with a pile of rubbish after it was dumped by a garbage truck. During the process, they discovered female body parts,” Larisa Malikova, the head of the landfill site, said.

Police started investigating the woman’s son after the remains were identified. While investigating, the detectives came across the son's internet history where he had searched for “how to hide a dead body.”

"Checking on the son, detectives discovered ‘how to hide a dead body’ query on his computer. He used his credit card to buy a plastic barrel, gardening shears, knife, and rented a car,” Sergiy Sydorenko, the chief of the Mykolaiv Regional Police, said.

Detectives then found the drowned barrel which had the woman’s severed head, arms and upper body.

"We tracked down his route to the Inhul river by GPS. Near the place where he had stopped the car, we found the drowned barrel with the body parts of the victim inside,” Sydorenko added.

The man was then taken into custody and during police interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He, however, said “he did not intend to kill his mother.” The investigation was ongoing and the man could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of the crime.
