A 35-year-old Dallas, Texas, man fatally stabbed his 3-year-old son and wounded his wife during an attack Saturday evening, police said. Brandon Demone Edwards was charged with capital murder and aggravated assault of a family member with a deadly weapon, local media reported.

Police arrived at the Greens of Hickory Trail apartments near West Wheatland Road and found the child gravely wounded with a knife. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Edwards' wife, who was also stabbed and was in a stable condition, fled their apartment with their uninjured 7-year-old daughter. She then notified police about the alleged attack, police spokesman Warren Mitchell reportedly said.

According to neighbors, they heard some noises from the house Saturday evening. They also saw Edwards, who was wearing only a pair of red plaid boxer shorts, trying to escape the home through the window. When he noticed the neighbors spotting him, he yelled that he was going to die. As Edwards tried fleeing after jumping into the bushes, police nabbed him. Edwards remained in jail Sunday with his bail set at $1.75 million.

Authorities are yet to release details about what led to the attack.

Police also said that Edwards was previously convicted of interfering with an emergency request for assistance and possession of marijuana, according to Dallas News.

In another incident in Texas city of Lewisville, a man accused of fatally stabbing his 16-month-old son was charged with capital murder in August 2018. The father was identified as 27-year-old Blair Michael Ness. The man was shot by a neighbor trying to stop him from "beating and stabbing a small child," police said. He was later discharged from the hospital and taken into police custody.

"I don't think anyone is going to be able to come up with a rational reason why a father would do that to his own son," Capt. Mike Lane of the Lewisville Police Department said at the time. "I don't suspect interviewing him is going to give us a rational reason either."
