A man allegedly stabbed an elderly woman to death in a liquor store followed by a dispute, in Manhattan, New York on Wednesday.

The man reported to be in his 50’s, stabbed a 64-year-old woman repeatedly in her chest instantly killing her.

The incident took place around 10:20 p.m. inside a liquor store on 3rd Avenue near East 25th Street in Kips Bay. The gruesome crime is believed to have occurred after a dispute between the two escalated and turned physical.

The relationship between the two is still unclear but according to sources, they both knew each other.

The suspect immediately fled from the scene and jumped on to a nearby rooftop on 3rd Avenue. Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident and immediately rushed the woman, who was lying in a pool of blood, to the nearby Bellevue Medical Center. She was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the man with suicidal tendencies threatened to kill himself by jumping off the roof. Officers, who reached the crime spot, found the man and in an attempt to catch him alive set up an inflatable rescue cushion in the middle of the street. The man, however, didn't jump and instead surrendered himself. The suspect was taken into custody early Thursday. No arrest has been reported as of now.

Since an official notification from the victim's family is underway, the police have not yet revealed the identity of the victim.

In a similar incident that occurred at the University of Maryland Medical Center, a 73-year-old woman, who was stabbed multiple times in the face with an ink pen by a teenager, succumbed to her injuries. The elderly woman was at the hospital recovering from surgery when the accused teenager who was a psychiatric patient barged into her room and started stabbing her on the face with an ink pen. A hospital staff who tried to stop the incident also suffered minor injuries when she tried pulling the victim’s bed out of the room. The accused was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and six counts of second-degree assault.
