A California man has been arrested for kidnapping a 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her inside a bathroom. The incident was captured in surveillance video, which shows the suspect forcibly taking the teen from a street in Los Angeles prior to the sexual assault.

The suspect, identified as Edward William Banks, 27, was accused of threatening the unidentified teen girl using a weapon, forcing her into a bathroom where he sexually assaulted the victim. The abduction took place while the girl was walking on Klamath Street near El Sereno Park Tuesday, New York Post reported.

In the surveillance video of the incident, which was released by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Banks can be seen kidnapping the victim in broad daylight. The footage shows the suspect walking with the girl in a residential area, holding her hand, with his arm wrapped around her.

"The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and forced the victim into a bathroom. The suspect then proceeded to sexually assault the victim," LAPD said in a news release.

Banks, who fled after the horrific attack, was arrested after several tipsters identified him from the surveillance video released by cops. He was booked on multiple charges and is currently held on $1 million bail.

In addition to the aggravated kidnapping for committing rape, Banks faces charges for the use of a deadly weapon, forcible oral copulation of a minor age 14 or older, forcible sodomy of a minor age 14 or older and forcible sexual penetration of a minor age 14 or older, KTLA reported.

"The sexual assault of a child is one of the most horrific crimes we see in my office. Crimes like these are devastating and shatter the innocence of our children. My experienced team will work tirelessly to hold accountable the person responsible for this attack," Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón said.

Meanwhile, police said the case is under investigation.

In an unrelated incident, a couple from San Leandro, California, was arrested last year for allegedly kidnapping a 17-year-old girl at gunpoint and forcing the victim into prostitution. The suspects, identified as Juan Aguilar, 41, and his wife Margaret Wilson, 39, were arrested on multiple charges, including human trafficking in connection with the alleged crime. Aguilar also sexually assaulted the 17-year-old victim after she was kidnapped from Honduras, as per reports.
