A woman had unexpectedly become a getaway driver for a bank robber after he called the woman for a date and went on to perform criminal activities. The authorities notified Tuesday that the convict was sentenced to three years in prison.

Christopher Castillo, 33, belonging to Chepachet, Rhode Island, had pleaded guilty to charges of armed robbery, three counts of assault and battery on a police officer and was sentenced to three years in state prison.

Castillo had never met the woman in person before the day of the first date on Dec.5, 2016. The woman reportedly had picked up Castillo in her car on the day of the date and drove to the Bristol County Savings Bank in North Attleboro while Castillo sat in the passenger seat and drank wine.

After reaching the bank, Castillo asked his date to pull the car over and asked her to wait for him there. On returning, the woman reported that she saw Castillo coming back sweating, with a gun in his hand and $1,000 in cash. Castillo had robbed the bank by pointing the gun at the teller. He then got into the car and asked the woman to step on it.

The officers in the area soon caught up to the car and as soon as Castillo’s date noticed it, she stopped the vehicle and stepped aside immediately. The authorities arrested Castillo who was trying to resist it by being violent and spitting on the officers.

After getting accounted for his deeds, Castillo was sentenced to serve three years at the state prison along with a two-year term at the Bristol County House of Corrections after the completion of his sentence. The woman was not charged in the case and was let free. Her name was not revealed in the report.
