  • The man's family knew he was AIDS-infected prior to the marriage
  • The woman's in-laws kicked her out of the house

A man in India married a young woman without disclosing that he was HIV positive. When the truth came to light, the man tried to pass the blame on his wife. HIV, which stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a sexually transmitted disease.

The family of the man, whose name wasn't revealed, married him off to the woman without telling her he was HIV positive. One year into their marriage, the man started feeling ill and was rushed to a hospital, News Track Live reported.

After it was determined that the symptoms were that of AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), the chronic life-threatening disease caused by the HIV virus, the woman's family confronted the man's family. The man's family denied the claims. The young woman from Yashoda Nagar said she was married to the accused on Feb. 12, 2020, in Viman Nagar in Chakeri town.

The man's family members also ousted the woman from her marital house alleging that she was infected first, Amar Ujala reported. Following this, the woman lodged a complaint with the Chakeri police station.

The victim now alleges that her husband's family knew he was HIV positive before their marriage.

The HIV virus is known to target a human's immune system and can prove fatal if the situation deteriorates. According to the World Health Organisation, people with HIV need antiretroviral treatment (ART) as soon as it is detected, followed by constant monitoring.

In June 2017, an HIV-positive Ohio man, identified as Ronald Murdock, was charged with murder after he knowingly infected his girlfriend with HIV. The man was accused of having unprotected sex with his long-time girlfriend, Kimberly Klempner, infecting her. The virus eventually claimed her life.
