Two people in India were killed Sunday in separate wild animal attacks, local authorities said.

A 60-year-old man, identified as Chanar Singh Sammal, was mauled to death by a tiger Sunday afternoon near a village in the city of Haldwani in India's Uttarakhand state, the Times of India first reported.

Officials said Sammal entered the forest in the Jeetpur Raikwal area of Gaulapar village with two other villagers to bring back cattle he had left earlier in the morning to graze.

The tiger, which was waiting for the three and hiding in the tall grass, reportedly caught Sammal and dragged him into the deep forest. The two villagers who came with him attempted to chase the animal, but Sammal's body was later discovered in the area.

Police were informed of the incident and took the man's body, which they sent for postmortem. Following the incident, the villagers demanded that the department put up a cage to catch the tiger and declare it a maneater.

An official said they are still investigating the matter and that police will attempt to catch the tiger if needed. Authorities also said the family will be compensated for the incident.

In a similar story, a 55-year-old woman was gored to death by a raging bull on the same day in Bilsi village in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the Times of India reported.

Muni Devi was attacked by a bull in Mohammedganj village when she tried to gather fodder in a field Sunday morning. Officials were told that no one was able to rescue her because of the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.

Authorities visited the village and gathered information after being informed of the incident. Devi's family, now composed of her five sons and a minor daughter, were told to send the body for autopsy.

Daulat Ram, one of Devi's sons, was quoted by the Times as saying, "We don't want an autopsy for money. We request the administration to capture the bull that had injured numerous people."
