  • Manchester United is plotting a move for Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, a report says
  • Martinez's value is believed to have shot up since his move to Aston Villa from Arsenal
  • The shot-stopper thinks the Gunners didn't treat him fairly

Manchester United may be ramping up its pursuit of a well-rounded goalkeeper.

The Red Devils are likely to add a solid shot-stopper in the next transfer window with a bid for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez already being prepared, Football Insider reported, citing unnamed sources. International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

According to the report, Manchester United is “lining up a blockbuster offer” for the Villa star as the club plans a major revamp by recruiting two highly-rated goalkeepers at the end of the season.

At the moment, United already has Martinez at the top of the list after the slub witnessed his impressive debut season at Aston Villa.

It can be recalled that Villa paid Arsenal just over £17 million ($23.5 million) for Martinez last September. However, Man United might have to pay more than the said figure as the player’s value is believed to have shot up to £22.5 million ($31.2 million).

Earlier this month, Martinez reflected on his decision to leave his boyhood club Arsenal for Aston Villa. According to the 28-year-old, he still loves Arsenal, but he doesn’t think the Gunners were confident about his game.

“I love everything about Arsenal,” Martinez told Sky Sports. “I still love them and I'm still watching the games, but I just felt like they didn't trust me like they should have. That's the reality because they kept buying goalkeepers to go in front of me and I was the goalkeeper from the academy.”

“When I was on a high, I still felt like they didn't deserve me because of the way they were treating me,” he continued. “They couldn't guarantee me the games I needed so I thought that if they couldn't guarantee me the games I needed, then I'm moving on. They didn't say to me that I wasn't going to play, they just didn't guarantee me the games that I wanted to play.”

Martinez went on to emphasize that despite knowing that it was a huge gamble, he is “really proud” of his decision to leave a big-name club in exchange for better opportunities.

"So, after 10 years, I decided to leave, and it was very difficult,” the goalkeeper admitted. “My family didn't understand why I was leaving when I was at such a good level at Arsenal, but it was my decision to leave and I'm really proud I did it.”

"It was a gamble, but I always believe that if you stay in the comfort zone, you will never reach anything in life,” he added. “I decided to take the step up.”
