  • Manchester United is being linked to a transfer swoop for Corentin Tolisso and Leon Goretzka
  • The pair is viewed to be the last major transfer of the Red Devils this summer
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addressed his team’s goalscoring this season

Manchester United could be plotting a move for two midfielders who could be the final pieces of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s revamped squad.

It has been a successful transfer window for Manchester United thus far. Apart from finally landing longtime target Jadon Sancho, the Red Devils also completed the transfer of world-class defender Raphael Varane.

However, Spanish outlet Fichajes reported that “ there are still a few touches to seal” in Solskjaer’s current roster, and the club will be looking to address it “ in the final stretch” of the current window.

The report suggested that the possible departure of Paul Pogba “sooner or later” would leave a void, and Manchester United may have already been searching for players who could fill in.

At the moment, the Red Devils are considering a move for Bayern Munich Corentin Tolisso, but the report added that he’s “not the only one” on their radar.

Aside from Tolisso, the club is also eyeing his teammate Leon Goretzka.

Tolisso and Goretzka have won the Bundesliga title three times with Bayern Munich and were also part of the German club’s sensational 2020 UEFA Champions League victory.

Manchester United’s midfield, meanwhile, is spearheaded by attacking sensation duo of Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. Sancho, on the other hand, adds depth as a back-up.

In the English Premier League opener against Leeds United, Pogba and Fernandes proved that Manchester United is the team to beat this season, having led the team to a statement 5-1 victory over Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Fernandes led all goalscorers with a record-setting hat-trick. But for Solskjaer, the goals should be “spread” across his natural strikers such as Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani.

"To be able to spread the goals across more forwards is going to be important for us," Solskjaer said after Manchester United’s win. "An attacking midfielder should not be the only player reaching 15 or 20 goals for us, no. ”

"Anthony [Martial] will score more goals than he did last season, Mason [Greenwood] will develop, Edinson [Cavani] started late last season so will score more goals, Jadon [Sancho] will come in and chip in with goals so I feel confident that the burden is not just on Bruno [Fernandes] to score,” the manager added. “Marcus [Rashford] will, of course, miss out on the first couple of months of the season, which is not great for him, but he will come back fresh.”
