  • Anthony Martial moved from Monaco to Manchester United in 2015
  • Martial scored only seven goals for Man Utd last season
  • Haaland has been a long-term target of Solskjaer

Manchester United are reportedly planning to use a star forward in a swap deal to sign Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland in the ongoing summer window.

With the arrival of Jadon Sancho, it is believed that French forward Anthony Martial's days at Old Trafford are now numbered. Manchester United could offer Martial to Dortmund in a deal that could land Haaland in Manchester, reported Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

Martial was a regular starter for Manchester United last season. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer showed immense faith in Martial, the 25-year-old Frenchman failed to live up to the expectations as he managed only seven goals and nine assists in a total of 36 appearances for the red Devils, across all competitions.

Having made his senior debut only in 2016, Haaland has been a goalscoring prodigy in his short career. He has played 137 competitive matches across three top-flight clubs (Molde FK, Salzburg and Dortmund), scoring 106 goals and providing 28 assists. It is understood that Solskjaer is aiming to play the young Norway forward along with Sancho and Marcus Rashford to form a dangerous front-line for Manchester United.

Haaland has been a long-term target of his compatriot and Red Devils boss Solskjaer. During the 2020 January transfer window, Solskjaer had failed to convince the young forward to join Manchester United and instead, Haaland moved from RB Salzburg to Dortmund on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Other top European clubs such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea are also chasing the 21-year-old playmaker.

While Chelsea have reportedly made Haaland their top target this summer, it was also previously revealed that the Norwegian has agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid.

Moreover, Chelsea are also believed to be interested in Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski as Haaland's alternative signing.

Dortmund have repetitively made themselves clear that they are not looking to sell Haaland this summer. However, the Bundesliga club will only hear offers if the fee is $204 million or more. Moreover, Haaland will be up for grabs for as low as $88 million in the 2022 summer, even though he is contracted with Dortmund until 2024. This is because of a clause in his Dortmund contract, inserted by his Super Agent, Mino Raiola.

However, it won’t be surprising if Chelsea match Dortmund’s hefty demands this time as the Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich sees Haaland as a generational talent who can take the team to a new level for the next decade.
