  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin is contracted with Everton until 2025
  • He netted 21 goals last campaign for Everton
  • Man Utd's interest in Calvert-Lewin goes back to 2019

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Everton’s striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the ongoing summer transfer window.

After reaching a deal for midfielder Jadon Sancho, Manchester United are still on the lookout for a striker, and Calvert-Lewin is one of their top targets for the position, reported soccer website Teamtalk. The young English player, who is on a contract with Everton until 2025, is currently valued at around $69 million.

Manchester United’s interest in Calvert-Lewin goes back to 2019 when the club’s chief executive Ed Woodward wanted to land him at Old Trafford as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, according to Football365.

Even though the club signed veteran Edinson Cavani, who has another year left on his contract, the Red Devils have not found Lukaku's long-term replacement since his departure in 2019.

24-year-old Calvert-Lewin kickstarted his soccer career with Sheffield United and was later roped in by Everton. After scoring 15 goals in 41 competitive matches in the 2019-20 campaign, Calvert-Lewin escalated his game in the 2020-21 season. He netted 21 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees as he was crowned the Player of the Year by the Merseyside club. Out of the 21 goals, he scored 16 in 33 Premier League matches.

Calvert-Lewin's goals tally of 21 matches that of Manchester United star Rashford in 2020-21, while the young striker scored four more than Cavani. With 28 goals, Fernandes was the top scorer for Manchester United in the previous season.

Apart from Calvert-Lewin, Manchester United are also eyeing the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland in the same role. It was previously reported that the Red Devils were planning to double Kane's wage in a bid to defeat Manchester City in the race to sign the England national captain.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United are yet to make an offer for Kane, Tottenham Hotspur has turned down City's opening bid, according to Sky Sports.

The two Manchester clubs dominated the Premier League last season, with United finishing second after falling short by 12 points.
