  • Man Utd could offer Jadon Sancho No. 7 shirt
  • Jadon Sancho is currently contracted with Dortmund until 2022
  • His transfer fee is expected to be over $124m

Manchester United reportedly plan to offer Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho their iconic No.7 shirt in a bid to tempt him to accept their transfer deal this summer transfer window.

Since Sancho is contracted with Dortmund until 2022, the German side have said they are not at risk of losing the talented midfielder.

“There is no new situation. Currently, no club will risk anything in making a big-money move - not even in England. We have a long-term contract with Jadon Sancho and that is why we are totally relaxed,” Dortmund chief Michael Zorc said recently in an interview.

Even though Sancho’s transfer fee is expected to be as high as $124 million or more, Man Utd are looking for ways to rope in the Englishman. Their latest attempt seems like a pretty clever one as they could put forward the No.7 shirt to the 20-year-old that was previously worn by legendary players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bryan Robson and George Best, as reported by Mirror.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, the young midfielder is a hot property with several top clubs chasing him such as Chelsea and FC Barcelona apart from Man Utd. It was recently revealed that Barca captain Lionel Messi has asked the club to sign Sancho, who has produced several impressive performances since last season that have made him a top target at the upcoming transfer window.

Last season, Sancho was the only player from top-five leagues, apart from Messi and Eden Hazard, to have scored goals and assists in double figures. The England national player has shown the ability to perform well from both flanks on the pitch and he also fits in well as an attacking option in the middle.

Meanwhile, Sancho’s England teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi has admitted that he is eager to reunite with the former at the club level.

However, Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been adamant about making Sancho a Red Devil ahead of next season. Even Marcus Rashford, one of Man Utd’s current stars, has said that he is excited about playing with Sancho at Old Trafford.

“I think our link-up play would be good. Sancho is a great player. He’s like the new generation of players. It’s exciting to watch him become the player he is developing into,” Rashford further added.

The only obstacle in Man Utd’s way to signing Sancho is going to be his transfer fee. In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Man Utd’s executive chief Ed Woodward has already declared that the upcoming transfer window won’t be “business as usual” and he has provided Solskjaer with a restricted budget for the same.

Making things worse for the former Premier League champions, Dortmund have made it loud and clear that they will not entertain any sort of bargain in the case of Sancho’s transfer.

“I can clearly say that despite the existential crisis [for football] even the richest clubs don’t have to believe they can go bargain hunting at Dortmund. We must not sell anyone below value,” said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke in an interview earlier.
