  • Manchester United signs James Garner on a new long-term deal
  • Garner will continue his loan spell at Nottingham Forest
  • The 20-year-old has impressed Bruno Fernandes in the pre-season

A Manchester United rising star has inked a new deal with the club but will still spend the season on loan.

James Garner will be a Red Devil for the next three years after penning a new contract with Manchester United. The 20-year-old’s new deal will run until June 2024 with the option of an additional year’s extension, the club announced on Sunday.

However, Garner will not be joining the Red Devils in the current campaign as he has already agreed to continue his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, having already spent the second half of last season with the Championship club.

The midfield sensation has left a good impression at Nottingham scoring four goals in 20 league games. He will once again become a regular first-team player Chris Hughton’s side.

Despite being on loan, Garner--who has captained the Red Devils in various youth competitions since age eight--assured Manchester United that his goal is to become a future star in the club.

“I’m made up, Manchester United has been a massive part of my life for over 10 years now,” Garner told the club’s official website. “My ambitions are obviously to become a first-team player here. I know exactly what it takes, I’m ready to go and showcase my ability to everyone and keep on striving for all my goals.”

“Signing this new contract shows the faith that the club has in me, it gives me extra motivation and means so much for me and my family,” he added. “I want to be a big player for this club one day, that is my ultimate aim and I’ll be working every day to make that happen.”

As early as now, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already pleased with what he sees in Garner, having let the midfielder play in all three pre-season matches this season.

“He’s done really well in pre-season, and he’s really impressed me,” Solskjaer said of Garner. “I think for his career, another season, or another six months now to start with, playing regularly in the Championship will help him.”

Red Devils star midfielder Bruno Fernandes, on the other hand, also foresee a bright future for Garner

“I think we know some of them already. Jimmy Garner, I think is a really good player, I really like him and the way he kicks the ball,” the Portuguese told the club’s website earlier this month. “He’s really aggressive off the ball too.”
