A 19-year-old man in Massachusetts was arrested for allegedly killing his father while trying to "exorcise a demon from his body" in a pond.

On Sunday night, Jack Callahan arrived home in wet clothes and told his mother, Wendy, he didn’t know the whereabouts of his father, 57-year-old Scott Callahan.

However, earlier that night, Jack had gone to pick up his father from a Boston bar where he had been drinking. They had taken an Uber, and were dropped off at Crocker park near their home in Duxbury, reported WBZ.

Jack was arrested after Wendy called the police and reported her son’s claims at 2 a.m. on Monday.

Following his arrest, Jack told the investigators that Scott hit him several times at Crocker park, the New York Post reported. The fight then reportedly moved to the pond in the park.

Scott’s body was found submerged in the Island Creek Pond, said the police in a statement. The 19-year-old told the police he was trying to exorcise a demon named “Dirty Dan.”

Jack allegedly blacked out following the fight and when he woke up, his father was missing, he told the police.

The court heard Plymouth County District Attorney Shanan Buckingham describe Jack’s statement to the police, “He believed he was baptizing his father. He was holding his father in the pond on his back like a baby, that he continually dunked his father’s head in the water about four to eight times, that when the father started to cough and choke, he would lift his head up and then when the father started to fight and strike him, he pushed the head back down into the water.”

Jack allegedly continued to do this until his father was no longer struggling, reported WBZ.

“The defendant indicated to officers that he made statements to the victim at this time, stating, ‘I left him there to decide, you can come to heaven with me or hell. I think he chose hell,’” said Buckingham.

Scott was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy report found water in Scott's lungs and an abrasion on the back of his head.

Jack is being held in jail without bail, and the judge has ordered the court clinician to evaluate him.
